Two Rivers:
The Power of Collaboration and other Leadership Lessons
In the fall of 2018, I met Shery Roussarie for the first time. We were CEOs of two competing health care companies, but the energy between us was undeniable. Our shared vision for creating a managed care network sparked a collaboration that would last two years and take our small community by surpriseāand by storm. Despite running separate companies, we came together, determined to create a safe, reliable place for people to access health care services.
It wasnāt an easy road. We faced significant resistance from the very medical organizations we were helping to sustain. These hospital systems, initially dismissive and even threatening retaliation for our collaboration, were rocked when Shery and I brought our vision of more accessible health care to life. We pushed past the barriers of gender, competition, and leadership politics, setting tradition aside and achieving what many thought was impossible. Through the power of collaboration, we showed what can happen when two like-minded leaders refuse to accept the status quo.
